Part of me thinks birds are birds, how could they possible emote, but then I look at a False Knees comic and I am proven wrong. i dont know what this bird is going through but ive also gone through the same thing the colours and detail in this one especially are so strikingĪlso I don’t know how he does it, but the animals he draws are so expressive. I’m not an artist so I don’t really know any technical terms to use here, but these drawings are just so visually pleasing. On reading this printed version of Barkman’s work as opposed to seeing it online, I was struck by how much detail and texture is in his illustrations. (also he’s a Canadian artist which makes me so excited for some reason lol, I love supporting Canadian artists!!!) But I’ll also include a bunch of comics in this review if you wanna sample the general tone of his work, so here we go… You can find the comics here on Tumblr or here on Barkman’s website. If you don’t know about False Knees, it’s a webcomic that Joshua Barkman started that got super popular because it is GREAT. If you’re looking for something fun and light during these not-so-fun-and-light times, then False Knees is the book for you. I specifically requested this book from the publisher because I’m a huge fan of his work and was so excited when they agreed to send me a copy! So here’s a post that’s just me gushing about this book. Today I’m doing something a little different by reviewing this absolutely delightful collection of comics from Joshua Barkman, creator of the False Knees webcomics.
